Liberty Mutual Car Insurance

One of the country’s oldest insurance providers, Liberty Mutual started almost one hundred years ago as a workers’ compensation company. Liberty Mutual has grown considerably since the beginning, mainly through acquisitions – buying companies in order to enter into brand new markets. A global insurance company now, Liberty Mutual Group (LMG) specializes in consumer and business insurance lines, mainly private and commercial auto insurance, homeowners, workers’ compensation, group disability and several others. Selling coverage primarily through its own agent force as well as some independent brokers, Liberty Mutual has over 900 offices in about 17 countries. The biggest money maker for LMG is in private automobiles, which account for 34% of total premiums.

What does all this mean for the average consumer shopping for the best car insurance? Well, according to a recent insurance study performed by J.D. Power & Associates, Liberty Mutual is “average” when it comes to pricing, policy offerings, billing, ease of payment, contacting the insurer and overall experience. While this isn’t bad, it could be better. The 2008 National Auto Insurance Study is based on 21,236 responses from auto insurance policyholders who were surveyed in April and May 2008. Liberty Mutual definitely caters more towards those consumers who are a little more hesitant when it comes to purchasing insurance over the phone or online. It’s this personalized attention that one receives with a real live agent that is so appealing. According to consumer feedback on product and service review site, epinions.com, Liberty Mutual ranks highest in price confidence. A majority of the feedback is positive; however, there are critics, as there are with any insurer. It’s important that when searching for something as important as auto insurance, that you, the consumer, shop around and find the best coverage for you.
